Literal Comprehension: 

Moti Nissani has written this essay “Why go to university?” where he has given the importance of university education. This suggestive essay gives various logics on the significant of the high-level degree to maintain quality of life. According to the writer, university education has the advantage as it concerns to income and job opportunities. It is also useful even for the illegal immigrant where people must have ideas regarding any written documents and information. The writer further presents his logic in the importance of education and says; an educated person can remain healthy. Educated person can take care of their health and enjoy better health condition than tycoons. It means education is important for a healthy life. Furthermore, the writer interconnected education and physical exercise too. Similarly, he argues that only an educated person can have real knowledge of cultural values. In childhood, every human can have over curiosity like “Why is the sky blue?” “Why is 2+5=7?”. These all curiosity can be solved only after university education where we can have an intellectual talk, philosophical studies and all about wisdom. Education can develop universal brotherhood; it means it helps to expand our social horizons. While adding other reasons of importance, the writer says personal freedom can only be obtained from university education. Ultimately, the writer emphasizes university educations as it is the backbone of social justice, personal cum national development, social freedom and most importantly it is the spirit of democracy.

Interpretation:

Writer, by focusing on the education of university is trying to encourage us to gain a higher degree. He presented various points to justify his thesis statement and university education is not only important for scholars but is also significant for the entire social being for their day to day life as university education provides various opportunities for any individuals.

Critical Thinking: 

This persuasive, suggestive essay expresses the importance of education with various convincing points but we can still have the query on some points.

  • Is university ultimate place to get knowledge?
  • What is about practical knowledge that can be gain from their experiment and experiences?
  • Is it 100% sure that university students can get a better job with a handsome payment?

Assimilation: 

After reading this essay, I realized the importance of education in practical life. Previously, I was quite passive in my study and Nepali academia; but now I have the resolution to accept the educational system critically and widely. As it is not the matter of traditional education only but I shall try my best to adopt new ideas in my study including technology and other practical knowledge.

  Literal Comprehension This is a commencement speech delivered by Salman Rushdie during graduation day of Bard College graduates students. Rushdie was happy due to two main reasons; firstly, he was accepted by the students for key speaker after rejecting to Jean Kirkpatrick, secondly all of the people were listening to him very interestingly.
