The Stub Book (Four levels)

Literal Comprehension

The stub-book is written by Spanish writer Pedro Antonio which is about Uncle Buscabeatas; a hardworking farmer who grows various vegetable items, like pumpkin, tomato, and potatoes. He cares and loves those vegetables like his daughters and sons. He gives names to every pumpkin so he can recognize those pumpkins anywhere in any situation. One day, he plans to sell those pumpkins in the market. As he was going to sell those pumpkins by tomorrow, he was serious as he was going to say goodbye to his lovely pumpkins. Unfortunately, those lovely pumpkins were stolen at night before uncle visited the garden to pluck them out. By knowing this, uncle was very upset and angry; so, he goes in search of the pumpkins in nearby possible city Cadiz. After reaching to market, he recognized his pumpkins that we're keeping on the display of the shop for sale. He started to scold the old businessman. After few minutes of discussion, many people including policemen gather there was a real robber (thief), uncle Fulano was also present to know the reason for the people gathering. Police arrested Fulano. Uncle Buscabeatas was awarded for his dedication and proved on his clam-like; Stub Book’ (remaining half part of any tickets). Uncle Buscabeatas was taking stems (remaining part of pumpkin) which was exactly assembled.

Interpretation

This story is trying to give us the example of awards for hard work. It says: honesty, truth, and dedication are always valuable which cannot be stolen. It is inspiring us to have dedication in any good deeds.

Critical Thinking

Though the story is inspiring and convincing, with the example of the hardworking farmer, still we have some points to think critically such as:

·     A farmer can be hardworking, he can love his products and also give the name for special items but it is unbelievable that any farmer can recognize every stem or part of items like the stem of the pumpkin.

·    In the story, the farmer kisses his products like tomatoes, pumpkins, and potatoes but here we can easily ask him a question that what happens if we frequently touch vegetables during his growth.

Assimilation

After reading this text, I have realized that we must study with full concentration, devotion, dedication, whatever we do we must love them. If we are the truth we can certainly get social justice. Cheaters are always punishable like uncle Fulano.
